new midsouth krav maga

index_02Last week the owner of MidSouthKravMaga.com contacted myself (with AllThingsOnDemand.com ) about updating his website.

I had him go look at the themes by StudioPress, and settled on the Corporate Theme for the baseline. We knew this would be a little more then light customization, so the end cost would be a little bit more.

The next day, wordpress was installed, the core theme was uploaded, and the customization & importing data began. As we went through the data added, the question of “how is the best way to present this information?” A couple types of pages were decided upon:

Area Index
If you have a bunch of related pages, you need a way to show them & you need a way index them. This is a dynamic page, if you add a new program, or a new instructor, the index page is automatically updated.

Series

FAQs page uses the Series page template

FAQs page uses the Series page template

This was the most updated page template, because we did not have the index page concept in code form (sorta). This is also the most thrilling result of the whole site. We are very happy with the FAQ page. Controls include ability todetermine how many posts are on the “child pages”.

Unit Hub
This concept has been used on many sites, but has two parts:
1. the unique area information
2. a list of content
past uses include the insider pages on ArtistInsider.com and the areas on NationInvestors.com

Blog
This concept is not new, and the theme even comes with a blog page template, but out blog pages have one additional feature – you can make any page a blog style page, listing one or many categories. The two placesMSKM currently has is one category each, but they could easily make a new page titled “news” or “blog” and share all (or most) of the posts/categories.

Link Page
Wordpress has this great built in link manager. You can categorize the links into groups. Well, this is a simple page template that will make a page with one or many link categories, then the links within each link category. This was our first time working with the built in link manager and such, and the end result was good.

The home page was also customized in how the data is shown & managed.

In the end, if you can email, you can add a post, or a page, or edit what is already there.
